Lubbock County, Texas – Authorities have confirmed the tragic death of 17-year-old Dalequavion Barnard York, who was fatally shot in an incident that left five others injured over the weekend. The shooting occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning near the 9200 block of the U.S. Highway 87 frontage road in south Lubbock County.
The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office received reports of gunfire at approximately 2:58 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies found York deceased at the scene and five other individuals suffering from injuries. While the injuries sustained by the others were not life-threatening, three of them were transported to local hospitals by private vehicles, and the remaining two were taken by ambulance.
The incident reportedly took place near several local clubs and is believed to have stemmed from a confrontation. However, details regarding the motive and the individuals involved remain unclear. As of Monday afternoon, two individuals had been arrested on unrelated charges, but authorities have indicated that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is currently leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
