Jasper, Alberta – The tight-knit communities of Jasper and Calgary are in deep mourning after the tragic death of 24-year-old firefighter Morgan Kitchen. Morgan, who was a member of the Alberta Wildfire crew, lost his life while bravely battling a wildfire in Jasper National Park. His death occurred after he sustained a severe injury from a falling tree during the active firefight northeast of Jasper. Despite swift efforts to save him, including an emergency airlift by STARS air ambulance, Morgan was pronounced deceased.
Morgan Kitchen was not only a dedicated firefighter but also a man of many talents and remarkable service. He had previously served in the Canadian Armed Forces and the British Royal Marines, which further emphasized his commitment to protecting others. Those who knew Morgan described him as a bold and brilliant individual with an authentic passion for life and a genuine interest in the well-being of others.

He was remembered as a much-loved character who excelled as an athlete, musician, singer, comedian, and actor. Parks Canada, in a statement following the tragedy, noted, "This incident highlights the dangerous nature of wildland firefighting and the hazards that crew members encounter every day." The loss of Morgan has sent ripples of grief through the firefighting community, as well as among his fellow soldiers and the residents of Calgary and Jasper.
Morgan was based out of the Rocky Mountain House Fire Base, where his loss is deeply felt by colleagues and friends. The Jasper Royal Canadian Legion Branch 31 honored his memory with a heartfelt tribute, stating, "Stand Easy. We shall remember."
