Keokuk, IA – Alene Rea Patterson, a beloved member of the Keokuk community, passed away peacefully at her home on August 15, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on March 5, 1943, in Kahoka, MO, Alene was the daughter of Goldie Bell Mitchell. She was well-known for her active involvement in the community and her dedication to her family and friends.
Alene earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Quincy College in Quincy, IL, and spent many years working as a realtor at Sutlive Real Estate in Keokuk. On July 23, 1978, she married Tim “T-Bone” Patterson at All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk. The couple remained deeply involved in their church community, with Alene participating enthusiastically in Catholic School activities and other church events.
Alene’s love for life was evident in her many hobbies, including crafting, gardening, and decorating her home, particularly during Christmas, when she would adorn her home with up to fifty-seven Christmas trees. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family, who she loved dearly.
She is survived by her husband, Tim Patterson; two daughters, Angela Fowler (Robert) of Oak Park, IL, and Emilea McGlasson (Dan) of Keokuk; one son, Zack Patterson (Jennifer) of Carthage, IL; nine grandchildren, Arlee, Tristin, Analise, Courtney, Nick, Angel, Madison, Annabella, and Maddax; two great-granddaughters, Charlie and Riley; and one soon-to-be-born grandson, Fox. Alene also leaves behind her brother, Larry Mitchell of Kahoka, MO; her twin sister, Allie McDaniel of Kahoka, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jack.
The community has been quick to express their condolences and share their memories of Alene. Jeannie R McDaniel Eads shared on Facebook, “This is my mom’s twin sister and one of the best aunts a girl could have. I learned so much from Aunt Alene and always thought I was like her. I will miss her dearly. Fly high until we see you again. Love you always.” Other friends and family members, including Eddie Heil, Barry Crone, and Donna Barry Davis, also offered their prayers and sympathies, emphasizing the impact Alene had on those around her.
A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA, where family and friends are invited to gather and remember Alene. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to PAW Animal Shelter in Ft. Madison, IA, reflecting Alene’s love for animals and her caring nature.
Alene Rea Patterson will be remembered for her kindness, vibrant spirit, and deep love for her family and community. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
