Allegheny County Police Urge Public to Assist in Search for John Malcom Smith in Connection to Homestead Double Homicide

Homestead, Pennsylvania – The Allegheny County Police Department is actively seeking information on the whereabouts of John Malcom Smith, who is wanted for questioning in connection with a double homicide that occurred on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, in the Homestead neighborhood. Smith is also facing multiple arrest warrants for burglary, simple assault, and probation violations.

The incident, which took place at a residence on the 100 block of West 15th Avenue, left two individuals dead: Antoinette Porterfield, 45, and John West, 54. The victims were found deceased by first responders after the Homestead Police, responding to a shots fired call, requested SWAT assistance when they received no response from inside the residence. Upon entry, SWAT officers discovered the bodies of Porterfield and West.

Antoinette Porterfield, one of the victims, has been identified as Smith’s mother, further intensifying the investigation. Authorities are urging anyone who sees Smith to avoid approaching him and to immediately contact 9-1-1. Those with information on his location are encouraged to call the Allegheny County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.

The Allegheny County Police are appealing to the public for cooperation in this ongoing investigation, stressing the importance of community involvement in bringing justice to the victims.
