Alexander County, North Carolina – Alvin Tod Jones, affectionately known as "Tod," passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the age of 57, following a brief illness. Tod was a cherished member of the Alexander County community, known for his dedication to public service and his deep love for his family.
Born on December 21, 1966, Tod spent his entire life in Alexander County, where he left a lasting impact on those who knew him. He began his career in public service with the Taylorsville Police Department in 1986 before joining the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office in 1988. His career spanned over three decades, during which he rose through the ranks from deputy to chief deputy, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and community members.
After retiring from the sheriff’s office in 2019, Tod continued to serve the public at the North Carolina Highway Patrol Weigh Station. His commitment to his community was evident in his professional life, but his greatest joy came from his family.
Tod is survived by his wife of 26 years, Katrina Jones, their daughter, Kaitlyn Schronce, her husband Justin, and his beloved grandchildren, Saige and Stella Schronce. He is also survived by his mother, Bernice Palmer Jones, and his siblings, Tammy Earp and Amanda Moose. Tod was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Parker Jones, and an infant son.
On social media, many friends and family members have expressed their grief and shared memories of Tod. Amanda Jones Moose wrote, “Tod is a huge part of who I am today. This hurts so badly for all, but I know without a doubt where he’s at and I will see him one day. Love you brother I will see you again.”
Sharon H. Brown offered her condolences, saying, “So terribly sorry Amanda, my sincerest sympathy and prayers for you all.” Brittney Kerley Holland simply shared, “Prayers,” while Jennifer Brown Little added, “I am so sorry to hear about Tod. Praying for all of you!” Timmy Pennell remembered Tod as a great man, stating, “Amanda, I am so sorry to see this! Tod was a great man. You and your family will be in our prayers.”
In honor of Tod’s life, a visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. A private service will follow, and Tod will be laid to rest with his family. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the State Employees’ Credit Union to support a college fund for his grandchildren.
