Anderson Resident Kannon Wayne Chaney, 21, Tragically Dies in Redding, California DUI Crash

Redding, California – The Shasta County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the tragic death of 21-year-old Kannon Wayne Chaney, a resident of Anderson, who was killed in a fatal DUI crash in Redding on Sunday morning, August 25, 2024.

The devastating incident occurred on Buenaventura Boulevard near Teton Drive. According to the Redding Police Department, officers arrived at the scene to find a car fully engulfed in flames at the center of the road. Chaney, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected during the crash and sustained fatal injuries.

The driver, identified as 19-year-old Cristian Bennett of Redding, has been arrested and is currently facing multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing injury or death, and driving without a license. Another passenger in the vehicle escaped unharmed and was released at the scene. The incident remains under investigation by the Redding Police Department and the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.

Following the news of his passing, family members and friends took to Facebook to express their grief and share their memories of Kannon. Hana Dunn shared, “Our family will never be this whole again. To not only lose one little brother but now two. It’ll never make sense. Fly high little brother.”

Michelle O’Connell reflected on the cherished moments she shared with Kannon, writing, “What a beautiful picture, Hana Dunn! We have endless wonderful memories to hold onto, and for that, I am forever grateful! Fly high, little budd.”

Others also offered their condolences, including LeenRoo Corn, who wrote, “Sending all my prayers,” and Damion Dunn, who added, “My deepest condolences.”

The family is mourning the loss of a young life cut short by this tragic accident. A postmortem examination will be conducted as the community awaits further details from the ongoing investigation.
