Antipolo City Mourns as Family Seeks Justice for Christian Maputol, Found Dead After Going Missing

Antipolo City, Philippines – The family of Christian Maputol, a 28-year-old resident with a disability, is demanding justice after his body was discovered stuffed inside a sack and floating in Ilog Baho, Sitio Kiskisan, Barangay San Jose, on Saturday, August 17. Maputol, who had bipolar disorder, had gone missing two days earlier on August 15 after leaving his home without informing anyone of his whereabouts.

Maputol’s disappearance prompted a social media outcry, with Antipolo City Mayor Casimiro ‘Junjun’ Ynares III sharing a post on August 16 to aid in the search. Tragically, the search ended in heartbreak when his lifeless body was found with multiple stab wounds.

The victim’s mother, Josefina De Santores, expressed her grief and anger in a heartfelt post on Facebook, saying, "Pagbabayaran n’yo sa Panginoon ang ginawa nyo sa anak ko" ("You will be accountable to God for what you did to my son"). The family’s pain was further echoed by his sibling, Cristy Maputol Tejano, who described Christian as a kind person who "didn’t deserve what was done to him."

The Antipolo Police and the Rizal Police Provincial Office have not yet released an official incident report. Meanwhile, the community continues to mourn the loss of Christian Maputol, as his family seeks answers and justice for this tragic and senseless crime.

In response to the tragedy, netizens and community members have also expressed their sorrow and outrage. Rowena Vios commented on Facebook, "Grabe naman yan…PWD yan. Wala naman yan ilalaban" ("That’s terrible…He’s a PWD. He couldn’t even fight back").

The death of Christian Maputol has left the community of Antipolo City grieving and calling for justice, highlighting the vulnerability of persons with disabilities and the need for greater protection and support.
