Dale City, Virginia – Steve Chappell, Assistant Chief of the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department (DCVFD) and a cherished member of the local community, has passed away. Chappell, fondly known as "Boulevard’s Bravest," dedicated over three decades of his life to fire and rescue services, profoundly impacting many lives.
Steve Chappell joined the DCVFD in 1989, quickly making a name for himself through his dedication and hard work. His commitment to the department and his passion for firefighting were evident from the outset. In 2002, Chappell’s leadership skills and dedication led to his promotion to Assistant Chief, a role he embraced with enthusiasm and responsibility.
Throughout his career, Chappell was known for his mentorship and commitment to training new recruits. Every week, he would meet with aspiring firefighters, sharing his vast knowledge and experience. His efforts ensured that the next generation of firefighters was well-prepared for the demanding nature of the job. Many who trained under him remember Chappell not only as an instructor but also as a friend and mentor.
Steve Chappell’s influence extended beyond the fire department. He was actively involved in teaching Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and other essential courses, shaping the careers of many in the field of emergency medical services. His contributions were widely recognized, and in 2004, he was awarded Life Membership in the DCVFD, a testament to his enduring impact and commitment.

Steve Strawderman, a fellow firefighter, expressed his sorrow: "I was heartbroken to learn of the passing of another longtime Fire and Rescue friend. Steve Chappell was one of the first flight medics when MEDSTAR/Washington Hospital Center started their medivac program. He was a role model and mentor to many career and volunteer personnel.
