Baltimore Resident Betty Grivakis Rodgers Passes Away at 65 After Courageous Battle with Lung Cancer

Baltimore, MD – The community mourns the loss of Betty Grivakis Rodgers, who passed away on August 22, 2024, after a two-year battle with lung cancer. Betty, aged 65, was a beloved figure known for her warmth, humor, and deep devotion to her family.

Born on May 17, 1959, in Baltimore, MD, Betty was the daughter of the late Ernest and Eleanor Grivakis. She was also predeceased by her brother, Dean Grivakis. Betty’s life was marked by her dedication to her children and grandchildren, who were her greatest joy.

Betty’s passing was announced on social media by Bob Tousey, who expressed his sadness, saying, "For those who have not heard, my former wife, Betty, passed away on Thursday after a 2-year battle with cancer. She will be missed."

Many shared their condolences on Facebook, including Catherine McMurray, who wrote, "Sorry for your family’s loss," and Scott McCauley, who expressed, "So very sorry for your loss, Betty’s extended family, and friends. Sending prayers… may Betty rest in eternal peace. God bless."

Betty was a graduate of Mt. Hebron High School and Villa Julie College. She enjoyed a varied career in legal, sales, and caretaking roles, where her compassion shone through. Her love for life was evident in her passions for travel, music, and beach outings.

Family and friends are invited to honor Betty’s life on September 3, 2024, at the Greek Orthodox Cemetery in Baltimore. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation or the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI).

Betty’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her, and her legacy of kindness and love will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be a part of her life.
