Beloved Cincinnati Theater Director and Acting Teacher Cheryl Couch Passes Away at 65; Memorial Set for September 28th

Cincinnati, Ohio – The theater and acting community in Cincinnati is mourning the loss of Cheryl Couch, a beloved director, acting teacher, mime, clown, and devoted mother, who passed away on August 3, 2024, at the age of 65. Cheryl’s death has left a significant void in the lives of those who knew her, particularly in the theater and spiritual circles where she played a pivotal role.

Cheryl Couch’s impact on the arts was profound, particularly through her work at CASA, the acting studio where she taught for nearly a decade. To honor her memory and continue her legacy, a GoFundMe fundraiser has been organized by Allen Karel. The funds raised will be used for Cheryl’s memorial service, scheduled to take place at Gabriel’s Corner on September 28, 2024, at 3 p.m. Following the service, her ashes will be laid to rest at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati and in her family’s plot in Alabama.

Any remaining funds from the fundraiser will be used to establish The Cheryl Couch Scholarship, aimed at supporting aspiring actors at CASA who are in need of financial assistance. So far, $300 has been raised out of the $10,000 goal, with early donations coming from supporters like Cullen Arbaugh, Caroline Saxon, and Mary Ann Meehan.

The news of Cheryl’s passing has deeply affected many in the community. Alaska Stoughton shared on Facebook, "A lot of you know I lost someone very influential for my theatre and spiritual life recently. I feel a huge empty space where she would occupy with her phone calls and guidance. I am still trying to cope with this level of grief. Forever missing you, Cheryl."

Cheryl Couch will be remembered not only for her contributions to the arts but also for her kindness, guidance, and the lasting impact she made on her students and colleagues. Her family, friends, and the wider community are invited to gather and celebrate her life and legacy at the upcoming memorial.
