Holly Springs, Mississippi – The Marshall Academy community is mourning the loss of Mrs. Carey Crain, a dedicated educator who profoundly impacted the lives of thousands of students during her 33-year tenure at the school. Mrs. Crain, who taught upper-level science classes at Marshall Academy from 1974 to 2007, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in education and deep affection from those who knew her.
In addition to her role as a teacher, Mrs. Crain served as the Senior Class Sponsor and the Patriot Yearbook Advisor, roles that allowed her to connect with students beyond the classroom. Her influence extended far beyond academic instruction, as she was known for her warmth, grace, and ability to make every student feel valued.
Even after her retirement from the Mississippi Public School System, Mrs. Crain remained a cherished member of the Marshall Academy family, returning as a substitute teacher. Her presence in the hallways once again brought joy to her former colleagues and students.
The community has expressed their grief and shared fond memories of Mrs. Crain on social media. Michele Bryan Carter commented, "Mrs. Crain had a lasting impact on so many! What a blessing to have known her. She was a tremendous lady with so much class, grace, poise, and an amazing sense of humor! She made every single student feel special. Heaven has gained a truly great lady!"
Melissa Watson also shared her thoughts, stating, "She made our science club trips, classes, yearbook, and everything in between. Well done."
Tara Pitt Stephenson added, "Loved her!! She was a great teacher in and out of the classroom. Always gave the best hugs and blessed to have had her sub for my girls. She will be missed by so many."
Visitation for Mrs. Crain is scheduled for Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Holly Springs Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Christ Episcopal Church, P.O.
