Brenda Lannan, Beloved Wife and Mother, Passes Away Peacefully in Port Colborne Surrounded by Family

Port Colborne, Ontario – Brenda Julia Lannan (née Sathmary) passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2024, at the age of 67, surrounded by her loving family. Brenda’s passing marks the end of a life filled with love, family, and community involvement. She leaves behind her husband of 45 years, Joseph Lannan, and her two daughters, Rebecca Gillespie and Jennifer Rodrigue, along with five grandchildren who were the pride of her life.

Brenda’s legacy extends beyond her immediate family. She is survived by her siblings Wendy Wyatt, David Sathmary, and Gregory Sathmary, as well as her brothers and sisters-in-law Tom, Gord, and Bill Lannan. She was predeceased by her parents, Eleanor and George Sathmary, and her in-laws, William and Noreen Lannan.

Brenda’s career at Scotiabank was marked by dedication, and she was an active member of the Port Colborne Country Club, where she enjoyed golfing with friends. Her passion for quilting and sewing was well-known, and she often shared these hobbies with close companions.

Brenda and Joe cherished their travels, often embarking on adventures with friends. However, it was her family that brought her the greatest joy, especially during Sunday dinners, where her famous chicken paprikas became a beloved tradition.

The family has expressed deep gratitude to the team at Sunnybrook, including Kayse and her PSWs, as well as Dr. Manser and her staff, for the exceptional care provided to Brenda.

In line with Brenda’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Port Colborne on Saturday, August 17, 2024, followed by a committal at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery. The family has asked that any memorial donations be made to St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church or Sunnybrook Hospital.

The community has expressed an outpouring of love and support on social media. Arlene Huffman Lessard wrote, "Sending our sincere condolences to the Lannan & Sathmary families." Debbie Wakunick added, "So very sorry for everyone’s loss. God has gained an angel." Ed Weasner shared, "So sorry Joe for the loss of your wife Brenda. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and the Lannan and Sathmary families."

Brenda Lannan will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to her family, and the love she shared with those around her. Her passing is a significant loss to the community of Port Colborne.
