Cripple Creek, Colorado – Briena Louise Karlik, a 35-year-old woman, is fighting for her life following a brutal attack inside a camper west of Cripple Creek. The incident, which occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on Wednesday, left Karlik in such severe condition that she was initially thought to be deceased. She was rushed to the hospital, where it was later confirmed that she was still alive but in critical condition.
Karlik’s mother, Corinne Williams, took to Facebook to share the heartbreaking news, stating that her daughter, Brie, "has many challenges ahead of her if she survives." According to Williams, Karlik is stable but will require numerous surgeries and procedures to address the extensive damage to her brain, lungs, and bones.
The Teller County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), is investigating the attack. However, no details have been released regarding any suspicious activity or whether the attack was premeditated.
In addition to the assault on Karlik, her dog, Ida, also suffered severe injuries during the attack. The dog lost an eye but is expected to recover fully. The Teller County Sheriff’s Office reported that Ida’s medical expenses have been covered and that she is doing well post-surgery.
