Caldwell Resident Maxine Danford Passes Away at 90, Leaving a Legacy of Love and Service

Caldwell, Ohio – Maxine Danford, a beloved resident of Caldwell, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Monday, August 26, 2024, at her home. Born on February 4, 1934, in Wakefield, Ohio, Maxine was the daughter of the late Eddie and Maggie Moore West. Her passing marks the end of a life dedicated to family, community, and education.

Maxine Danford was a devout member of the First Church of Christ in Caldwell and was also active at the Caldwell Church of Christ. Her career began as a hairdresser, but she found her true calling as a Head Start teacher with GMN, where she touched the lives of countless children in Noble and Monroe counties. Maxine was known for her deep commitment to her community, particularly her support of the Caldwell Redskins and Ohio State Buckeyes.

Maxine’s life was centered around her family and friends. She was happiest when cooking and bringing people together, always showing warmth, generosity, and love. These qualities endeared her to many, making her an integral part of the Caldwell community.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Burkitt; her second husband, Leonard W. Danford; her son, Val Burkitt; and her sisters, Lois, Lillian, Carol, and Pam. Maxine is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.

The community has expressed an outpouring of support and condolences on social media. Kris Stritz commented, "It’s never easy to lose your Mama. Hugs to all of you." Tonda Feldner shared, "My sweet Maxine! Sending her wonderful family hugs & prayers." Karen Okey added, "Sorry to hear of Maxine’s passing."

Others, like Polly Dimmerling, remembered her fondly, stating, "She was a wonderful lady. Prayers," and Suzanne Rucker Pitts noted, "So sorry to hear this, she was such a sweet lady! Prayers for family and friends." Many echoed these sentiments, expressing their sorrow and offering prayers for Maxine’s family.

Maxine Danford’s legacy will continue to live on through the many lives she touched in her 90 years. The family has expressed their deepest gratitude to Absolute Hospice and to Maxine’s special friend and caregiver, Tonda Feldner, for their loving care and support during her final days.
