Canton Community Mourns the Passing of Deborah S. Walters, Beloved Resident and Avid Elvis Presley Enthusiast

Canton, Illinois – The Canton community is mourning the loss of Deborah S. Walters, a cherished 72-year-old resident who passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Born on January 21, 1952, in Canton to Norman "Pete" and Martha (Richardson) Wright, Deborah, affectionately known as "Debbie," was a beloved figure in her community, known for her kindness, warmth, and vibrant personality.

Debbie was married to her devoted husband, Lowell "Dean" Walters, for 54 years, and together they built a life filled with love, family, and shared memories. Their marriage, which began on July 31, 1970, was a cornerstone of Debbie’s life, and they raised three children: Michael Walters, Steve Walters, and Shelly Windsor. Her legacy also includes four grandchildren and a great-grandson, all of whom were the light of her life.

Throughout her life, Debbie was known for her various roles at Four Seasons, the Canton Daily Ledger, and Hy-Vee in Canton. She was an avid collector of Elvis Presley memorabilia, and her love for the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll was well-known among her friends and family. Debbie also enjoyed fishing, camping, roller skating, and frequenting flea markets, but perhaps her greatest joy was hosting cookouts, where she created countless cherished memories with her loved ones.

The community’s affection for Debbie is evident in the numerous tributes posted on social media. Alice Williams-Herrick shared, "Prayers to all her family. Debbie lived across the street from us when we were growing up. She was older than me but was always so nice." Similarly, Marsha Tandy fondly remembered Debbie, stating, "Sincere condolences to Deb’s family and friends. I fondly remember Deb in CSHS and when she worked at Hy-Vee. Sending prayers to her family."

Debbie’s passing has left a void in the hearts of many, but her memory will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched. In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded, and a celebration of her life will be scheduled at a later date. The family invites those who wish to honor Debbie’s memory to contribute to an education fund for her great-grandson, Liam Lascelles, through the Walters family.

The Canton community, along with Debbie’s family and friends, will profoundly miss her warmth, her smile, and her unwavering love for those around her.
