Carson, California – The community of Carson is in mourning after a tragic series of events on Saturday night led to the deaths of Richard Mata, 45, and Vaa Fatu, 18, in two fatal shootings on East and West 234th Street.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of gunfire just before midnight. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Richard Mata fatally shot in the street at one location, while Vaa Fatu was found deceased in a vehicle nearby. Paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department pronounced both men dead at the scene.
Richard Mata, a father of three, had recently moved back to Carson from Arizona. His sister has expressed profound sorrow, highlighting the immense grief felt by his family.
