Castlepollard Mourns the Loss of Beloved Community Figure Dermot McLoughlin as Hurling and Camogie Clubs Pay Tribute

Castlepollard, County Westmeath – The community of Castlepollard is grieving the sudden loss of Dermot McLoughlin, a cherished member of the Castlepollard Hurling and Camogie Club. Dermot passed away on Sunday, August 11th, 2024, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, surrounded by his loving family and the compassionate hospital staff. He was 52 years old.

Dermot McLoughlin was well-known in the Castlepollard area, hailing from Glenview, where his family has long been involved in the Castlepollard Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Dermot continued this tradition with pride, dedicating himself to supporting local causes and volunteering his time generously.

The Castlepollard Hurling and Camogie Club expressed their deep sorrow over Dermot’s passing, stating, "Dermot was a man who always volunteered to help local causes. We are thinking and praying for the family and friends at this time." This sentiment was echoed by many others in the community, who remembered Dermot as a kind-hearted individual who made a significant impact on those around him.

Facebook users also shared their condolences and memories of Dermot. Martin Gorman wrote, "RIP Chang," while David Kelly simply stated, "RIP Sir!" Brian McCabe added, "RIP Dermot. Condolences to all his family." These heartfelt messages illustrate the widespread grief felt by those who knew him.

Dermot’s death has left a void in the Castlepollard community, where he was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to helping others. His contributions to the Castlepollard Hurling and Camogie Club were more than just attending matches—he actively supported the club’s activities and was always ready to lend a hand.

He is survived by his loving wife Cathy, and their three daughters, Katie, Emma, and April. His mother, Bernie, along with his brothers and sisters, also mourn his loss. The funeral mass will be held at St Michael’s Church, Castlepollard, on Saturday, August 17th, followed by burial at St Michael’s Cemetery.

As the community comes together to remember Dermot McLoughlin, his legacy of service and dedication to Castlepollard will be fondly remembered. His spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his loss will be felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in peace.
