Colorado Springs, Colorado – Charles Stone, 55, tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while crossing South Nevada Avenue near the intersection of East Elmo Avenue on August 5, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 6:39 p.m., according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office confirmed Stone’s identity following the fatal accident. He was crossing at the designated crosswalk when a westbound vehicle struck him. Despite immediate medical attention at the scene, Stone succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a local hospital.
The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene, and authorities have stated that neither speed nor impairment appeared to be factors in the incident.
This marks the 37th traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs this year, a rise from 29 fatalities at the same time last year. The community mourns the loss of Charles Stone as the investigation continues.
