Chris Slate Lynch was a well-known figure in Hickory, having been an active part of the cycling community for over 30 years. Chris was a regular presence at Carolina Pedal Works, a popular cycling shop in Hickory, where he was always willing to share his expertise and enthusiasm for the sport.

Carolina Pedal Works announced Chris’s passing in a heartfelt message that underscored the impact he had on the community. "It is with heavy hearts we are posting to let the Hickory cycling community know that Chris Slate Lynch—a fixture in our community for over 30 years—passed away yesterday, August 25, from cancer," the post read.

Chris’s influence extended beyond his mechanical skills; he was known for his kindness and willingness to help anyone in need. Phil Brown, a long-time customer and friend, shared his thoughts on Facebook, stating, "My bike mechanic for approx 25 yrs at R & R and before that at First Flight when Howard was running that shop. Great mechanic. Always kind. So very sad." David Wagner, another member of the community, echoed these sentiments, saying, "What a shock. Chris was such a good guy. He was always helpful and was the opposite of a pushy salesperson. The cycling community has lost a good one."

In honor of Chris’s memory, Carolina Pedal Works has called on the community to support his family during this difficult time. The shop is accepting donations to help cover medical and funeral expenses, a gesture that reflects the deep respect and love that many had for Chris.
