Circleville, Ohio – On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, the Circleville community was shaken by a tragic incident on South Pickaway Street that resulted in the death of one individual and the arrest of another. Jaison Mclean, 41, was taken into custody by local authorities after a shooting that occurred around 5:09 PM. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning.
The Circleville Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at 701 S. Pickaway Street, where they found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers immediately performed life-saving measures before Circleville EMS transported the victim to Berger Hospital. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, the victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Jaison Mclean was arrested at the scene and has been charged with one count of murder and one count of felonious assault. He is currently being held at the Pickaway County jail without bond.
The incident has prompted an outpouring of grief and prayers on social media. Crissie Burris posted "Prayers" in response to the tragedy, while Raychael Grantham Pence expressed deep sorrow, stating, "This is just sad all the way around. I hope God holds both families in His hands and hope both find peace and mercy."
Nick Radcliff, who witnessed the efforts of the officers and EMS, shared his thoughts on Facebook, saying, "Although the victim ultimately succumbed to the injuries, the personnel on scene worked very hard to save the individual’s life. They should be proud of their efforts."
As the investigation continues, the Circleville community is left grappling with the loss and the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
