Columbia Community Mourns the Loss of 14-Year-Old Caroline Earhart, a Bright and Beloved Teenager

Columbia, Missouri – The community of Columbia is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Caroline Anne Earhart, a vibrant 14-year-old who passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. Born on January 19, 2010, Caroline was the cherished daughter of Todd Robert and Michelle Marie (Dimmitt) Earhart.

Caroline’s life was filled with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a strong sense of community. She began her educational journey at Vanderbilt Learning Center in Naples, Florida, before moving back to Columbia, where she attended Beulah Ralph Elementary School and John Warner Middle School. Caroline was known for her academic excellence and her leadership as the captain of her eighth-grade cheer squad. She had been eagerly anticipating the start of her high school career at Father Tolton Catholic High School, where she was set to join the varsity cheerleading team.

Beyond her academic and athletic pursuits, Caroline was a creative soul with a passion for dancing, soccer, swimming, and the arts. She loved spending time with her friends, enjoying sleepovers, dance parties, and shopping trips. Caroline’s aspirations included visiting New York with her mother and studying abroad in London, where she dreamed of opening a bookstore.

Caroline’s passing has deeply affected her family and the broader Columbia community. On social media, many have expressed their sorrow and offered prayers for her family. Lance Dimmitt shared, "Heartbroken doesn’t describe it… please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers." Maureen Dimmitt, along with Jake Dimmitt, expressed similar sentiments, writing, "We are all heartbroken about the news of our Sweet Caroline. Please keep all of us in your prayers for the long road ahead."

Other friends and community members echoed these sentiments. Mandy Maubach-Hatfield commented, "So heartbreaking, my thoughts and prayers are with you all!" while Dan Stout simply said, "So sorry for your family’s loss."

Caroline’s strong Catholic faith was a significant part of her life. She was baptized at Our Lady of the Lourdes Catholic Church, where her funeral services will be held. The community is invited to a Prayer Service on Friday, August 16, 2024, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial the next day.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made in Caroline’s memory to Father Tolton Catholic High School. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 95, Jefferson City, MO 65102.

The loss of Caroline Earhart is a profound tragedy for her family, friends, and all who knew her. As the community comes together to mourn, her memory will undoubtedly continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been part of her life.
