Community in Richmond, Indiana Mourns the Loss of Esteemed Dr. Harry Moynihan Following His Unexpected Passing

Richmond, Indiana – Dr. Harry Lawrence Moynihan, a beloved and respected figure in the Richmond community, tragically passed away on August 10, 2024, at the age of 61. Dr. Moynihan, originally from Chicago, Illinois, had dedicated over three decades of his life to the medical field, making a profound impact on countless patients and colleagues throughout his career.

Dr. Moynihan’s medical journey began after graduating from the University of Chicago in 1985 and the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1991. He completed his residency at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana, where he later served as Chief Resident of Internal Medicine. His career spanned 33 years, during which he worked at St. Vincent – Randolph Hospital in Winchester, Indiana, and most recently at the Reid Internal Medicine Clinic in Richmond, Indiana.

Dr. Moynihan’s sudden passing has left a significant void in the community, as expressed by many who knew him. Drucilla Taylor Alton shared on Facebook, "Austin and Wayne had the most down-to-earth, compassionate doctor who always took time to get to know his patients’ concerns and address them with sincerity. Dr. Moynihan listened without rush… Our prayers go out to his family, friends, and his Reid Family and patients. What a huge loss for our community losing the amazing Dr. Harry Moynihan."

Other community members echoed similar sentiments. Vanessa Thompson Hardin expressed her sorrow, "So sorry to hear that. A friend of mine from swim, her husband went to him." Ryan Williams added, "He was a great doctor and a great person!!!" Jennifer Eastman Swafford shared her heartbreak, stating, "I’m so heartbroken – our entire family went to him. We feel like we’ve lost a member of our family."

Dr. Moynihan is survived by his wife, Sue, and their six children, who were his pride and joy. His passing is not only a loss to his family but also to the many patients who trusted him with their care and the broader community that he served so diligently.

Visitation will be held at Elm Ridge Funeral Home in Muncie, Indiana, on Friday, August 16, 2024, followed by a Mass at Saint Mary Catholic Church on Saturday, August 17, 2024, where family, friends, and community members will gather to pay their final respects to a man who touched so many lives.
