Community Mourns Shekema Toran, Found Deceased in Decatur After Mysterious Disappearance from Augusta, Georgia

Decatur, Georgia – Shekema Toran, a 36-year-old woman who was reported missing from Augusta, Georgia, has been tragically found deceased in Decatur, just four days after her disappearance. The discovery of her body has been classified as a homicide by Georgia law enforcement, adding to the grief and confusion surrounding her untimely death.

Shekema was last seen in Augusta on July 31, according to a missing person’s notice released by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. She was believed to be traveling to the Atlanta area in a white 2004 Ford F-250, driven by an individual identified as Barritz Martin. However, the nature of their relationship has not been disclosed by authorities.

On August 4, just days after her disappearance, Shekema’s body was discovered inside a vehicle parked at a Kroger grocery store in Decatur, approximately 140 miles from where she was last seen. The DeKalb Police Department confirmed the discovery in a statement shared with reporters. The details surrounding her death remain unclear, further deepening the sorrow and mystery for her family and community.

Shekema’s mother revealed to reporters that she had received strange text messages after her daughter went missing, messages that did not seem characteristic of Shekema. This has added another layer of distress to the family’s ordeal as they seek answers.
