Chesapeake, Virginia – The passing of Desiree Lynne Barnes Bass on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the age of 53, has left her family, friends, and the Chesapeake community deeply saddened. Desiree, a beloved mother, daughter, and friend, was known for her unwavering love and kindness, which touched the lives of many.
Desiree was born on January 24, 1971, in Chesapeake, Virginia, to Dreama Barfield Barnes and David Ray Barnes. She devoted her life to her family, including her three children: Lindsey Welbaum and her husband Michael of Raleigh, Chandler Bass and his girlfriend Alyssa Armstrong of Halifax, and Corey Bass and his partner Amy Conrad, also of Halifax. Her children were the center of her world, and she was dedicated to their happiness and well-being.
The community has come together in support of Desiree’s family during this difficult time. Stacie Edwards, a close relative, shared on Facebook, "The family is asking you to donate to help cover the cost of the funeral instead of flowers. That helps tremendously." The family has requested donations to Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service to assist with the funeral expenses.
Many in the community have expressed their sorrow and shared fond memories of Desiree on social media. Jay Ricks, who had delivered mail to Desiree’s home for years, wrote, "I still can’t believe any of that happened. I delivered their mail for years and saw them from time to time out there." Jennifer Pierce Clapton remembered Desiree fondly, saying, "She was the sweetest soul. She made so many cakes for Jordan and painted a beautiful picture for my shed. She will be missed!"
A Celebration of Life service for Desiree will be held at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM. Reverend Stan Lewis will lead the service, providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather, share memories, and support one another during this time of loss. Following the service, a reception will be held to continue celebrating Desiree’s life and the positive impact she had on those around her.
