Community Mourns the Loss of Mike Dudley, a Beloved Founder of Curious Pastimes, Who Passed Away Peacefully

Mike Dudley, widely known in the community as "Brother Joseph," passed away peacefully on Wednesday, leaving a profound void in the lives of many who knew and loved him. As one of the founders of Curious Pastimes, a community centered around live-action role-playing (LARP), Mike was a cherished figure who brought joy, wisdom, and kindness to all who crossed his path.

Curious Pastimes announced his passing in a heartfelt Facebook post on Thursday, August 15, 2024, expressing their deep sorrow. "Mike was a real legend in our community, adored by players, and one of the pioneers of Curious Pastimes. He was so much fun and polite to everyone around him, and he adored the game. Mike, you will be missed," the post read.

The cause of Mike’s passing has not been disclosed. However, his impact on those who knew him is evident from the numerous tributes shared by friends and community members on social media.

Tam Hatton-Brown reflected on the two decades of knowing Mike through LARP, describing him as "kind, wise, cheerful, crazy, friendly, creative," and someone who always brought a steadying or cheering presence.

Jamie Watkins shared a touching memory from the last Renewal event, where Mike spent hours talking to him about rituals, leaving a lasting impression of kindness that Jamie says he will never forget.

Arend Phillips also remembered Mike fondly, calling him "a truly epic man" whose laughter and presence will be sorely missed.

The community plans to honor Mike’s memory at the upcoming Renewal event, where those who knew him are invited to share their stories and celebrate the life of a man who made a significant difference in their lives.

As the community mourns, the outpouring of love and respect for Mike Dudley is a testament to the positive influence he had on so many. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will undoubtedly live on through the many lives he touched.
