Community Mourns the Loss of Young Luke Rogerson in Millfield as Funeral Arrangements Are Announced

Millfield, Sunderland – The community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Luke Rogerson, a beloved six-year-old boy who passed away at home on 13th August 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Luke, who was holding his father Gareth’s hand at the time of his passing, leaves behind a grieving family and a community deeply touched by his short but meaningful life.

Luke was a cherished son to Gareth Rogerson, a treasured grandson of Denise and Bill, and a devoted brother to Lukas and Billy. His vibrant spirit and infectious laughter brought immense joy to his family, including his aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. The loss of such a young life has left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

A funeral service to honor Luke’s life will take place on Friday, 23rd August at 12:30 pm at Sunderland Crematorium. The service will provide an opportunity for family, friends, and loved ones to come together, share memories, and celebrate the life of this extraordinary young boy.

In a gesture reflecting the family’s enduring spirit and desire to make a difference, they have requested that donations be made to Young Lives vs Cancer in lieu of flowers. A collection will be provided on the day of the service for those wishing to contribute to this cause, which supports young individuals and their families as they navigate the challenges of cancer.

Luke’s father, Gareth Rogerson, expressed his profound grief on social media, saying, "My heart is shattered into a trillion pieces, my lovely, beautiful boy. We will always be together, Luke, me and you, always, always, always, always. You made me the proudest dad in the world."

The outpouring of support from the community has been overwhelming. Jacqueline Barrass wrote, "R I P little man," while Sandra Johnson added, "Thoughts are with your family. Rest in peace, Luke xx." Other messages, such as those from Ray Moore and Cath Haley, echoed the sentiments of sadness and support, with Haley writing, "Fly high, beautiful boy."

Luke’s memory will live on through the love and support of his family and community, as well as the ongoing efforts of those touched by his story. He will always be remembered for his courage, his radiant smile, and the immense love he brought into the world. May he rest in peace.
