Community of East Liverpool, Ohio Mourns the Passing of Mary Ellen Tolley, Beloved Church Leader and Teacher

East Liverpool, Ohio – The community of East Liverpool is mourning the loss of Mary Ellen Tolley, who passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024, at the age of 84. A cherished figure in her community, Mary Ellen was known for her deep faith, dedication to her church, and tireless service to others.

Born on October 10, 1939, Mary Ellen dedicated much of her life to the Trinity Presbyterian Church, which later merged with Long Run Presbyterian Church to form the Longs Run Trinity Church. Her role in the church was not just as a member, but as a vital cornerstone, where she served as both a Deacon and an Elder on the Session. Her leadership and guidance were pivotal in the church’s activities and in supporting its members.

Mary Ellen’s compassion extended beyond her formal roles. As part of the Mission committee, she made it her mission to visit shut-ins, offering companionship and spiritual support. Her work with the church’s Unity Circle and as a Sunday School teacher left a lasting impact, particularly on the many children whose spiritual lives she helped to nurture.

In addition to her religious commitments, Mary Ellen had a successful career at JCPenney, where she served as a Catalog Supervisor. She was respected for her professionalism and dedication, which mirrored the same values she brought to her church and community work.

Mary Ellen Tolley’s passing has left a significant void in the hearts of those who knew her. Her unwavering faith, kindness, and leadership are remembered fondly by her church members and the wider community. A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life and legacy, offering a chance for all who knew her to reflect on the profound influence she had on their lives.

Her legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her, and her memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration for years to come.
