Community of North Charleston Mourns the Loss of Pastor Thomas Riley, Founder of World Overcomers Ministries

North Charleston, SC – The community is mourning the death of Pastor Thomas Riley, a beloved spiritual leader and the founder of World Overcomers Ministries. Pastor Riley passed away on August 11, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of faith, leadership, and deep community impact.

Known for his dynamic approach to ministry, Pastor Riley was particularly recognized for his ability to connect with younger generations. LilJack Neil Darippa, a community member, shared his heartfelt tribute on Facebook, emphasizing Pastor Riley’s powerful influence. "Only if y’all know how powerful this man’s word was … Pastor Riley was the first pastor who talked to the kids as a leader who broke down the understanding, had gospel concerts for the youth," LilJack wrote, highlighting how Pastor Riley used creative methods to engage and inspire the youth.

Throughout his ministry, Pastor Riley remained committed to his mission, despite the high profile he attained. LilJack reflected on the days when Pastor Riley led World Overcomers Ministry, recalling that "Everybody used to be like Pastor Riley has this, that, and a private jet." Yet, his wealth and influence never detracted from his dedication to serving others and spreading the gospel.

His ministry was not confined to the pulpit; Pastor Riley was also a familiar face in live broadcasts, including appearances on 5 News, where he reached a broader audience with his message of faith. His efforts to involve young people in gospel activities, like concerts, left a lasting impact on many lives.

The loss of Pastor Riley has been deeply felt across the community. Robert Maxwell, another community member, shared his memories on Facebook, expressing his gratitude for the support Pastor Riley provided during a difficult time in his family’s life. "I remember when you were there for our family when my father was called home. It meant more than anyone will ever know," Maxwell wrote. "To say that you will be missed is definitely an understatement!"

Catherine Brisbane added her condolences, writing, "My condolences to the family," while Denise Niecy Miles remembered him as a true leader in the Word, stating, "Yes! That was my Pastor, a true Leader in the Word!! He will be missed."

Pastor Thomas Riley’s passing marks a significant loss to North Charleston and the many lives he touched through his ministry.
