Waverly, Missouri – The small community of Waverly is deeply concerned as the search for Nathan "Nate" Alan Thompson, a 43-year-old resident, continues. Nathan has been missing since the early morning of August 11, 2024. He was last seen leaving Casey’s General Store in Waverly, Missouri, in his red early 2000s Chevy Monte Carlo. The circumstances of his disappearance have left his family and the community on edge, especially given reports that Nathan was experiencing mental health challenges and may be suicidal.
Nathan, born on February 7, 1981, is described as a Caucasian male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, with green eyes, a bald head, and dark facial hair. He is well-known for his distinctive tattoos, including a large TCB Skull on the back of his head and full sleeve tattoos on both arms and his right leg. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a white tank top, tan shorts, white Nike Shox, and a silver chain necklace. Nathan’s phone and wallet were found at his residence, adding to the mystery of his whereabouts.
Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the urgency due to Nathan’s mental state. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Missing Persons Unit and the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office are leading the investigation. They ask that anyone with tips or sightings contact them immediately.
Community members and friends have taken to social media to express their concerns and offer support. Missouri Missing, a local organization, has been actively sharing Nathan’s flyer in hopes of gathering leads. One post from the organization reads, "We kindly request our followers to join us in sharing this flyer and raising awareness in order to ensure his safe return home."
Search efforts have been extensive. On August 13, the Beneath The Surface Search And Recovery Dive Team, along with the Mid-Missouri Sheriff’s Dive Team, conducted a thorough search of the Missouri River near Waverly. Despite identifying four vehicles underwater, none were linked to Nathan’s Monte Carlo. The dive team expressed their gratitude to all volunteers and local emergency services that assisted in the search, though they remain concerned for Nathan’s safety.
The community continues to rally around Nathan’s family, holding onto hope for his safe return. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office or the Missouri State Highway Patrol Missing Persons Unit.
