Lundy Braun, 77, of Cranston, Rhode Island, was tragically killed on Friday evening, August 9, 2024, when she was struck by a vehicle in front of her residence on Strathmore Road. The accident occurred around 7:40 p.m. as Braun, a well-known figure in her neighborhood, was walking near her home.
Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene, finding Braun unresponsive at the end of the driveway. Despite extensive efforts, including CPR and other lifesaving measures, she was later pronounced deceased at Rhode Island Hospital.
The driver involved, a 25-year-old woman from Pawtucket, was backing out of the driveway in a 2009 Toyota Highlander when the accident occurred. She remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the police investigation. According to her statement, she was unaware of Braun’s presence behind the vehicle until she felt the impact. Both the driver and her passenger were visibly shaken by the incident. Cranston Police Chief Michael Winquist confirmed that there were no signs of alcohol or drug impairment on the part of the driver.
The Cranston Police Department is continuing its investigation into the cause of the crash. As of now, no charges have been filed against the driver.
