Dan Richter of Los Angeles, California Passes Away – A Beloved TV Writer and Community Member Remembered

Dan Richter, Los Angeles, CA – The world, his family, friends, and the community of writers are mourning the loss of Dan Richter, a well-known TV writer, who passed away last Sunday after a long battle with cancer. Dan was a cherished friend, always offering support even during his most challenging days.

John Rizzotti shared on Facebook, "In the early morning last Sunday, this world, his family, his friends and his beloved community of writers, lost one of the greats! Dan Richter was the friend you always wanted by your side and for the last few years battling cancer, we were by his. I met Dan 20 years ago and I can’t tell you the joy and laughter he brought to any situation. Even in his most painful and vulnerable of days, he would always ask how WE were doing."

Dan Richter was adopted into a loving family at six weeks old and grew up in Greene, New York. He was diagnosed with bone cancer at eight, leading to the amputation of his left leg below the knee. Despite these early challenges, Dan pursued a diverse range of careers, from champion skiing and opera singing to becoming a well-known facilitator and earning a master’s degree in educational psychology.

At thirty, Dan moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming a television writer, joining the prestigious ABC/Disney Writers’ Program. He worked on various shows, including "The Fosters" on Freeform and "Pop-up Video: Jersey Shore" on VH1.

Amanda Cagan expressed her condolences, "So sorry for your loss. Sending big hugs. xo." Similarly, Steve Chen noted, "Sad to hear this. Dan was a wonderful and funny man."

The family will release obituary and funeral arrangements at a later date. Dan’s legacy in the television industry and the impact he had on his friends and community will be remembered fondly.
