Mooresburg, Tennessee – The dirt track racing community is mourning the tragic loss of Scott Bloomquist, a legendary figure in the sport, who died in a plane crash near his home in Mooresburg, Tennessee, on Friday morning, August 16, 2024. The incident occurred around 7:15 a.m. EST, according to reports confirmed by local authorities and shared by his close friend, Reid Millard, on social media.

Bloomquist, 60, was a towering figure in Dirt Late Model racing, celebrated for his unparalleled achievements, including over 600 race victories and his induction into the Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame. His last race took place on August 3rd at the USA Nationals in New Richmond, Wisconsin, held at Cedar Lake Speedway.

The news of his death has sent shockwaves through the racing community, with many taking to social media to express their grief and share memories. Chris Ferguson, a fellow racer and close associate of Bloomquist, posted a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, recounting his personal experiences with Bloomquist. "Scott treated my family like his own," Ferguson wrote. Bloomquist’s death marks the end of an era in dirt track racing. He is survived by his daughter, Ariel, his parents, and his sister. Despite a series of recent health setbacks, including a motorcycle accident and a battle with prostate cancer, Bloomquist remained a passionate competitor, continuing to race and contribute to the sport until his untimely passing.
