West Springfield, Massachusetts – Donna Stafford, a cherished member of the West Springfield community, passed away suddenly on August 11, 2024, at the age of 63. A graduate of West Springfield High School and a dedicated engineer, Donna leaves behind a legacy of love, community service, and cultural enrichment.
Born on October 13, 1960, Donna Stafford was the daughter of Edna and Lester Stafford. She completed her high school education in 1978 and later earned a degree in electrical engineering from Roger Williams College, followed by a master’s degree from Western New England College. Her career took her to Western Mass Electric Company, where she made significant contributions as an engineer.
During her professional journey, Donna met Gary West, her life partner of over 35 years. The couple traveled the world, living in various countries, including South Africa, England, Poland, and Ukraine, before settling in Springfield, Massachusetts, 24 years ago. Their historic home in Springfield, which Donna filled with art, antiques, and a beautiful garden, reflected her passion for design and architecture.
Donna was deeply involved in her community, particularly at Lake Wyola, where her family had resided for more than 73 years. She took immense pride in the cottage her father built and was actively involved in preserving the lake’s natural beauty. Donna served as President of the Lake Wyola Association from 2017 until her passing, demonstrating her commitment to her community.
Donna’s love for culture was evident in her frequent visits to Broadway musicals, operas at the Met in New York City, and concerts at Tanglewood. She was also known for hosting memorable Kentucky Derby parties and enjoying trips to Nantucket and the Brimfield Antique Flea Market.
Donna is survived by her devoted spouse, Gary West, her sister Doris Hayes of West Springfield, her brother Charles Stafford and his wife Judy of Irvin, and several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and her beloved dog Eddie. Her parents, Lester and Edna Stafford, preceded her in death.
Those who knew Donna will always remember her vibrant personality, her dedication to her neighborhood, and her deep love for her family. Her creative and loving spirit will continue to inspire everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
