Dorothy Mae Motley, Bowling Green, Missouri Resident, Dies Peacefully at 84

Bowling Green, Missouri – Dorothy Mae Motley, a cherished resident of Bowling Green, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on May 21, 1940, in Silex, Missouri, Dorothy lived a life marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community.

Dorothy was the daughter of Cedric and Francis (Blair) Hammett. She spent her early years in Silex before moving to Bowling Green, where she married Paul F. Motley on May 23, 1959. Their marriage, which lasted until Paul’s passing in 2018, was a testament to their deep bond.

Throughout her life, Dorothy worked in various roles, including positions at LA Plastics, Stark Bros. Nursery, Smith-Barr Manor, and Maple Grove Lodge. She retired on March 31, 2011, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and dedication that touched the lives of many.

Dorothy found joy in gardening, playing computer games, bingo, watching Westerns, and working on jigsaw puzzles. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her large family, including sons, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many extended family members. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and several close family members.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Bibb-Veach Funeral Homes and Crematory, with Pastor Bill Hobbs officiating. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 28th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Dorothy will be laid to rest in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

In honor of Dorothy’s life, the family suggests donations be made to Pike County Home Health and Hospice or Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Dorothy’s passing has elicited an outpouring of sympathy and prayers from the community. Ann Glass shared, "Prayers for comfort during this difficult time." Jim Gibbs and Pam Buck commented, "So sorry for you all loss, my prayers are with the family." Similar sentiments were echoed by Sherry Campbell-Comer, Sandi Buchanan, Linda Woodward White, and many others who offered their condolences and prayers on Facebook.

Dorothy Mae Motley will be remembered as a loving mother, a dedicated worker, and a woman whose life was a shining example of devotion to her family and community. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
