Dr. Sharkey, who resided in Littleton, Colorado, tragically passed away on July 20, 2024, following an accident. Dr. Michele Sharkey was known for her unwavering dedication to animal care, a passion that began in her childhood in Lansing, Michigan, where she was born on April 8, 1990, to Michael and Tina Sharkey. Her journey from Michigan to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado was marked by her love for animals and a commitment to veterinary medicine. After graduating from DeWitt High School in 2008, Michele pursued her academic interests at Aquinas College and later at Loyola University in Chicago, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 2013.

Michele’s passion for veterinary medicine led her to Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 2017. Her professional career began at Pol Veterinary Services in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, where she quickly became a valued member of the team, known for her compassion and expertise in animal care.

In 2021, Michele fulfilled a lifelong dream by relocating to the Rocky Mountains, where she continued her veterinary practice. Her love for the natural world was evident in her personal life as well, where she enjoyed hiking and observing wildlife, particularly moose, her favorite animal. Her deep connection to nature and animals was a hallmark of her life and work.

Dr. Michele Sharkey’s passing has deeply affected her community and those she worked with. On Facebook, many have expressed their sorrow and condolences. Dr. Pol, a colleague, shared, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Michele Sharkey, a beloved member of our Pol Veterinary Services family. She will be deeply missed."

Others in the community echoed this sentiment. Tina Bale commented, "Oh no, so very very sorry to hear this. She will be very missed by many," while Pearl Jewel reflected, "She is caring for all our heavenly pets now."
