Dubuque, Iowa – Kelli Hayes, a 58-year-old resident of Dubuque, tragically suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle while assisting at the scene of an earlier accident on Highway 3. The incident occurred on Thursday evening at approximately 9:00 PM.
According to the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office, Hayes entered the roadway near the Northwest Arterial to help clear debris left behind by a previous auto accident. While performing this selfless act, she was struck by a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Annika Neumann, also from Dubuque.
Emergency services, including officers from the Asbury Police Department, the Iowa State Patrol, and Sherrill Emergency Medical Services, promptly arrived at the scene. Hayes was immediately transported to Finley Hospital, where she was treated for significant injuries. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
