San Jose, California – Duncan McQuarrie, a 39-year-old resident of Orlando, Florida, has died following a tragic wrong-way accident on Highway 85 in San Jose. The accident, which occurred on Monday afternoon, claimed the lives of two other individuals, a 47-year-old woman, and a 14-year-old boy, both from San Jose.
The crash happened at approximately 3:40 p.m. near the Highway 87 interchange. McQuarrie was driving a Toyota pickup truck southbound in the northbound lanes when he collided with a Tesla. Emergency responders arrived swiftly at the chaotic scene, closing all northbound lanes of Highway 85 for several hours. The highway has since reopened.
Duncan McQuarrie sustained major injuries in the crash and was hospitalized. Sadly, he later succumbed to his injuries. Reports indicate that McQuarrie had a prior criminal record, including offenses for driving without a license, possession of cocaine, and drunk driving. Authorities are currently investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
