Easton, MD Mourns the Loss of Retired Sergeant Gordon F. Lee Jr., a Decorated Marine and Esteemed Police Officer

Easton, MD – The Easton community and law enforcement are in mourning following the passing of Retired 1st/Sergeant Gordon F. Lee Jr., a respected figure in both the United States Marine Corps and the Easton Police Department. Gordon Lee passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024, due to natural causes, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, bravery, and service.

Gordon Lee’s career began with honorable service in the United States Marine Corps, where he developed the leadership skills that would later define his time with the Easton Police Department. He joined the department on January 3, 2001, embarking on a career that would span over two decades and leave a lasting impact on his colleagues, fellow officers, and the community.

Recognized early for his leadership abilities, Gordon was promoted to Corporal and took on the role of Supervisor of the K9 Unit. His commitment to this role was evident as he served as a K9 Handler for seven years. His dedication to the safety and well-being of others extended beyond his police duties; he was a former member of the department’s honor guard, reflecting his deep respect for our nation’s fallen heroes.

Gordon was perhaps best known for his role as an instructor and a member of the department’s Critical Response Unit (CRU), where he served for 18 years and eventually became the Team Leader. His expertise was crucial in conducting high-risk operations, ensuring the safety of both the public and his team. His tactical skills and commitment earned him numerous commendations, including a Bronze Star for disarming a shooter in a crowded area.

As a Maryland Certified Instructor, Gordon shared his knowledge and passion for law enforcement through both academic and firearms training. His excellence in teaching was recognized in 2016 when he was named Instructor of the Year by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission. Upon his retirement, Gordon served as the department’s Training Coordinator, where he played a key role in establishing the first Citizens Police Academy, furthering his commitment to community engagement and education.

Throughout his career, Gordon Lee was the recipient of 20 awards, including the Chief’s Award, multiple Commander’s Awards, Exceptional Service, Lifesaving, and Commendable Service awards. These accolades are a testament to his unwavering dedication and exemplary service.
