Eldridge B. Richards, Longtime Jamestown, KY Resident and Dedicated Church Deacon, Passes Away at 88

Jamestown, KY – The community of Jamestown is mourning the loss of Eldridge B. Richards, who passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the age of 88. Eldridge, a respected member of the Jamestown community, was surrounded by his family during his final moments.

Born on September 25, 1935, in Jamestown, KY, Eldridge was the son of the late Velma (Grider) and Marlin Richards. His life was marked by deep faith and an unwavering commitment to his community. For over fifty years, Eldridge served as a Deacon at Jamestown First Baptist Church, a role that reflected his dedication to his faith and the people around him.

Eldridge’s career was also a testament to his hard work and dedication. He began his professional journey with Irby Construction Company, traveling across the United States to install electrical transmission lines. In 1965, he joined Kentucky Utilities, where he worked as a lineman for over thirty years, leaving a lasting legacy in the field of electrical transmission.

Eldridge is survived by his two daughters, Susan Peck (John) and Melissa Giles (Dr. Chuck), both of Columbia, KY, and his sister, Bette Riley, of Louisville, KY. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Hannah, Emily, and Aaron Peck, Baylor, Clay, Chaz (Samantha), and Dr. Van (Karli) Giles. His great-grandchildren, Josie, Charlie, and Kip Giles, were a source of immense joy for him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Cravens) Richards, and his grandson, Hayden Peck.

The community has expressed an outpouring of support for Eldridge’s family during this difficult time. Many took to social media to share their condolences. Glenna Bertram wrote, "Prayers for the family! He will be missed by many!" while Ann L. Huckaby expressed, "So sorry for your loss!" These sentiments were echoed by numerous others, reflecting the widespread impact Eldridge had on those around him.

Funeral services for Eldridge B. Richards will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Jamestown First Baptist Church, with Dan Flanagan officiating. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at H. E. Pruitt Memory Chapel in Jamestown on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on Sunday from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the church. Eldridge will be laid to rest in Rexroat Cemetery, Jamestown, KY, with his grandsons and family members serving as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Jamestown First Baptist Church or Rexroat Cemetery. Eldridge B. Richards will be remembered for his lifelong dedication to his community, his faith, and the love he shared with his family.
