Englewood Community Mourns the Passing of Retired Tenafly Police Lieutenant Paul Cantwell

Englewood, New Jersey – The community of Englewood and the Tenafly Police Department are deeply saddened by the passing of retired Tenafly Police Lieutenant Paul Cantwell. Fondly known as "Canty," Paul Cantwell was a respected figure in the law enforcement community, having served with distinction throughout his career.

The Englewood Police Department shared the news on their social media, expressing their sorrow over the loss of a man who had become a great friend and ally to many officers. "Canty was the quintessential old-school cop," they stated, highlighting his quick response to requests for assistance and his participation in the Police Unity Tour. Cantwell was also known for standing shoulder-to-shoulder with his colleagues at police funerals, further solidifying his reputation as a steadfast and supportive officer.

The announcement prompted an outpouring of tributes on Facebook, with many expressing their condolences and sharing memories of Cantwell. Joe Hammond referred to him as a "Cop’s Cop," while Bill Haggis reminisced, "Canty was the best! Great cop, good friend, and best buddy. I’ll miss you, bro. RIP." Others, like Robin Cook, reflected on Cantwell’s transition to a guardian angel, saying, "May he Rest In Peace and soar high with his blue wings. Angels will be his friends, family true and blue."

Stan Stroz, Bobby Roads, and many others also paid their respects, with messages such as "Rest in Peace my Brother" and "Thank you for your service and friendship."
