Noel, Nova Scotia – The Noel and District Volunteer Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its founding members, Retired Chief Frank Hennigar, who passed away at the age of 86. Known affectionately as Junie, Frank Hennigar was a respected figure in the community, dedicating his life to public service and the fire department he helped to establish.
Frank was a man of many talents and a wealth of knowledge. His journey with the fire service began early in his life, and his commitment to helping others was evident to all who knew him. Known by various names, including Frank Jr., Junior, and Junie, he was recognized not only for his quiet, hardworking demeanor but also for his leadership and dedication.
Chief Wayne Greene, who followed in Hennigar’s footsteps, expressed his deep admiration and respect, saying, “The fire department was well established when I joined in 1990, with Junie being Chief. He was always willing to lend me his ear for advice, or to answer any question on the department history.” In December 2023, the fire department celebrated its 55th anniversary, during which Frank was honored for his significant contributions, receiving a well-deserved standing ovation.
The news of Frank Hennigar’s passing has touched many in the community, prompting an outpouring of condolences on social media. Becky Marlene Neil commented, "RIP Junior!" while Hector White expressed, "Sorry for your loss RIP! Junie." Bonnie Webb described him as "A kind man with a heart of gold for his family, friends, and community."
Frank Hennigar’s legacy will continue to live on through the Noel and District Volunteer Fire Department and the many lives he touched.
