Fresno Community Mourns the Tragic Death of 16-Year-Old Buchanan High Student Sandro Lazo After Fatal Bike Crash in Clovis

Clovis, California – The Fresno County community is grieving the loss of 16-year-old Sandro Lazo, a student at Buchanan High School, who tragically lost his life after a bicycle accident on Thursday night. The incident occurred when Sandro was riding his bike westbound on Perrin Road. As he made a turn onto Fowler Avenue, his path tragically intersected with an oncoming vehicle, resulting in a fatal collision.

Despite wearing a helmet, Sandro sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he later passed away. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office officially identified him on Friday, marking a heartbreaking moment for his family, friends, and the broader Clovis community.

The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and cooperated fully with authorities as the investigation into the incident continues. The tragic accident has left the Clovis Unified School District in mourning, with Buchanan High School Principal Omar Hemaidan expressing deep sorrow over the loss. "This is a devastating loss for our entire school and community. Our hearts go out to Sandro’s family," Hemaidan stated, emphasizing the significant impact of Sandro’s death on the school community.

In response to this tragedy, the school’s mental health team will be available to support students as they cope with the grief and shock of losing a fellow student.

The loss of Sandro Lazo has sparked an outpouring of condolences and reflections on social media. Luanne Reilly Oda shared, "So sad, my biggest condolences to his family," while John Paul added, "My condolences to his family and friends." Robert Falls expressed, "MY CONDOLENCES TO ALL INVOLVED, NO MATTER WHO WAS AT FAULT. BOTH SIDES WILL HAVE TO LIVE WITH WHAT HAS HAPPENED," highlighting the shared grief that has affected both sides of this tragic event.
