Garforth Community Mourns the Loss of Beloved Sheltered Housing Warden, Jennifer Cawood

Garforth, West Yorkshire – The Garforth community is mourning the loss of Jennifer Cawood, a beloved sheltered housing warden who passed away on August 16, 2024. Jennifer, who was known for her kindness and dedication to those she served, leaves behind a legacy of love and support that touched many lives.

Jennifer was a devoted wife to James Cawood and a loving mother to her children Nikki, Jenni, and Catherine. She was also a proud grandmother to Leyton, Christian, Jacob, Asia, Oliver, Jack, and Lewis. Jennifer’s role as a sheltered housing warden in Garforth went far beyond her professional duties, as she was known for providing care, love, and friendship to countless individuals over the years.

The family has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and kindness from the community. In a heartfelt Facebook post, Nikki Cawood Welsh expressed the family’s gratitude, saying, "We would all like to thank everyone near and far for their much needed and appreciated support at this extremely difficult time."

The community is invited to join in a celebration of Jennifer’s life, which will be held at Lawnswood Cemetery on September 11, 2024, at 1:45 p.m. For those unable to attend in person, a web link can be provided upon request. Following the service, friends and family are welcome to gather at Barley Hill Working Men’s Club at 3 p.m. to share memories of Jennifer.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Crohn’s & Colitis UK, a cause that was close to Jennifer’s heart. A fundraiser organized by her daughter, Nicola Welsh, has already raised £110 out of its £150 goal. Donations can be made to support research into these diseases, which affect over 500,000 people in the UK.

Several individuals have shared their condolences and memories on Facebook. Sheila Thompson wrote, "Sending much love & strength darling to you & your family at this difficult time." Donna Ladle added, "Sending all our love xxxx," while Linda Pilmer commented, "Thinking of you Nikki and your family xx."

Jennifer will be remembered as a beacon of kindness and compassion in the Garforth community. Her family and friends will continue to honor her memory through the love and care she showed to others throughout her life.
