Geronima Florez, 85-Year-Old Woman, Tragically Killed in Monte Alto Dog Attack, Community in Shock

Geronima Florez, an 85-year-old resident of Monte Alto, Texas, tragically lost her life in a horrific dog attack on Friday evening. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, leaving many mourning her sudden and violent passing.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office responded to an emergency call around 6 p.m. from the 22000 block of Jesus Flores Road, where they found Florez severely injured. She was bleeding from her neck and the left side of her head, injuries inflicted by one of her own dogs, a black pitbull mix breed. Despite the prompt arrival of medical assistance, Florez succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

Initial reports suggested that two dogs might have been involved in the attack. However, after further investigation, the sheriff’s office confirmed that only one dog was responsible for the attack. The aggressive pitbull mix was shot and killed by Florez’s brother immediately following the incident. The second dog, which was initially believed to be involved, was later recovered and found not to have participated in the attack.

This tragic event has raised concerns in the community about the dangers of owning pets with known aggressive tendencies. The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the circumstances leading up to the attack and has committed to providing ongoing updates as they work to fully understand the factors that contributed to this devastating loss.

As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of Geronima Florez and grapples with the tragic reminder of the potential dangers associated with pet ownership.
