Gil Neary, Esteemed NYC Real Estate Pioneer and LGBTQ+ Advocate, Dies in Tragic Car Accident at Fire Island

New York, NY – Gil Neary, a well-known figure in New York City’s real estate industry and a beloved advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, tragically passed away in a car accident on Friday, August 23, 2024. He was the founder and president of Bank Neary Real Estate, a brokerage firm he led with distinction for over four decades.

Gil Neary’s unexpected death has left the community in mourning. Neary, who had been courageously battling cancer, was renowned not only for his real estate acumen but also for his significant contributions to LGBTQ+ causes, particularly in the Fire Island Pines and various neighborhoods across downtown Manhattan.

Throughout his career, Neary focused on residential real estate, specializing in areas such as Greenwich Village, Chelsea, and the East Village. His extensive knowledge also extended to other parts of Manhattan, where he managed offices on both the east and west sides, and he collaborated with a talented group of agents who helped cover wider areas including Queens and Harlem.

Mark Robinson, a long-time colleague and friend, recalled Neary’s pivotal role in finding the perfect commercial space on West 16th Street for the Boston>New York AIDS Ride production office. Robinson emphasized Neary’s unwavering support for the AIDS Ride initiative, noting that his contributions were instrumental from its inception and continued for many years.
