Finola, who was at the heart of Bracken’s Bakery and its Northside shop and café, leaves behind a legacy of warmth, dedication, and service.
A Lifelong Dedication to Cork’s Baking Community
Finola Bracken, née Halbert, was a driving force in the Cork baking scene. Alongside her husband Declan, she played an instrumental role in maintaining the legacy of Bracken’s Bakery, a beloved establishment that has been a staple in Cork since the 1950s. The bakery is renowned for its quality products and has been a symbol of tradition and excellence in the community.
Cork City Councillor Kenneth O’Flynn, who knew the Brackens for over 30 years, described Finola as “the driving force” behind the bakery’s success. Her influence went beyond business, as she was also a dear friend and a pillar of the community. The Brackens were among the oldest tenants in the O’Flynn family’s property, highlighting their deep roots in the area.

Finola is survived by her loving husband Declan, their three children Lydia, Sam, and Erica, and her cherished grandchildren Alice, Conor, Tess, and Laurie, with another grandchild on the way. Her passing marks the end of an era for Bracken’s Bakery and the Cork community, but her legacy of kindness, dedication, and community spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Her remains will repose at Barry Brothers Funeral Home, Hazelwood, Glanmire, from 5 pm to 6 pm this evening, followed by a private funeral service.
