Gonzales Man Pedro Leija Guzman Tragically Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on Louisiana Highway 398 in Assumption Parish

Labadieville, Louisiana – In the early hours of Monday, August 12, 2024, a tragic accident claimed the life of 39-year-old Pedro Leija Guzman, a resident of Gonzales. The fatal crash, which involved three vehicles, occurred on Louisiana Highway 398, west of Louisiana Highway 1013 in Assumption Parish.

According to the Louisiana State Police, the accident happened shortly before 6:00 a.m. Guzman was driving a 2014 Toyota Camry westbound on Highway 398 when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle veered left, crossing the centerline and colliding head-on with a 2013 Kenworth tractor-trailer. The impact of the crash caused Guzman’s vehicle to ricochet back across the road, striking a 2016 GMC Yukon in the westbound lane.

Pedro Leija Guzman sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Kenworth was unharmed, while the driver of the GMC Yukon was transported to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with authorities examining potential factors such as driver fatigue, distraction, or a medical emergency. Toxicology samples have been collected from all drivers involved, and results are pending.

The tragic loss of Pedro Leija Guzman has left the Gonzales community and his loved ones in deep mourning. On Facebook, community members shared their condolences and prayers. Cheryl Bruno Fank commented, "So sad! Prayers for the family and friends! Prayers for all involved." Another user, Audrey Johnson, simply wrote, "Prayers."

As the investigation continues, the community remains hopeful for answers that may bring some closure to Guzman’s grieving family and friends. The accident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of safety and vigilance on the road.
