Jacksonville, North Carolina – The Onslow County community is mourning the loss of Greg Shreckengost, a beloved band director at Trexler Middle School and Music Director at Northwoods United Methodist Church. Greg passed away at his home on Thursday evening, leaving behind a legacy of love, music, and devotion that has touched countless lives.
Greg Shreckengost was not only a dedicated educator but also a cherished member of both the Jacksonville, North Carolina, and New Bethlehem, Pennsylvania communities. His commitment to his students was unwavering, and his passion for music inspired many young musicians during his time as Director of Bands at Trexler Middle School and Richlands High School. Greg’s influence extended beyond the classroom, where he was known for fostering talent and encouraging a deep love of music among his students.
His musical journey began at Redbank Valley Junior/Senior High School and continued through his studies at Clarion University of Pennsylvania and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he specialized in the Euphonium. Greg’s love for music was a constant throughout his life, leading him to a fulfilling career in music education and church ministry.
At Northwoods United Methodist Church, Greg served as the Music Director, where his contributions to the church’s music and choir programs were invaluable. His deep faith and love for worship were evident in everything he did, and his presence will be deeply missed by the congregation.

Greg Shreckengost’s life will be celebrated with a service on September 7th at 5:00 pm in the Richlands High School auditorium. In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that contributions be made to a scholarship being established in his name, ensuring that his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of musicians.
Greg is survived by his beloved wife, Joy Shreckengost, and his loss is felt deeply by all who knew him. His kindness, generosity, and passion for music will be remembered and cherished by the many lives he touched.
