Trinity County, CA – The search for Gregory Alan Russell, a 68-year-old man from Tillamook County, Oregon, continues after his vehicle was discovered abandoned on a remote logging road in the Deerlick Springs area of Trinity County. Russell, who was reported missing on August 5, 2024, had last been seen driving away from his residence on August 1, 2024. Despite initial reports, it was not until days later that authorities learned Russell had visited a casino in North Bend, Oregon, before traveling to Trinity County, where he had contact with several acquaintances.
The discovery of Russell’s vehicle on August 13, 2024, led to an extensive search and rescue operation that began the following day and remains ongoing. Deputies and search teams have been combing the area, but Russell has yet to be located. Authorities suspect that Russell, who has exhibited peculiar behavior in the past, may have wandered away from his vehicle into the dense forest.
The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office, along with several other agencies, including Humboldt County Search and Rescue, Butte County Search and Rescue, Shasta County Search and Rescue, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, are actively involved in the search efforts. The California Highway Patrol and the California Office of Emergency Services are also assisting in the operation.
Concern and prayers from the community have been pouring in on social media. Michael Coulter expressed his concern, writing, "Prayers for this search." Brandy Davis questioned, "Is he from the Tillamook area or is he from Trinity County? Maybe he’s familiar with both?" Shaun DesJardins responded, clarifying, "He lives in Tillamook County now, but has a long history in both areas. Lots of family in the Weaverville area also." Another concerned individual, Debbie Case, asked if scent-tracking dogs were being utilized in the search, highlighting the community’s deep involvement in the situation.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on Russell’s whereabouts to contact the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office at 530-623-2611. The search continues as hopes remain high for a positive outcome in locating Gregory Alan Russell.
