Grenola, Kansas – The community of Grenola is mourning the loss of Floyd Elvin “Toad” Hull, who passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan. Born on June 6, 1938, in Grenola, Kansas, Toad spent his entire life in this small town, deeply rooted in its community and history.
Toad was known for his hard work as a heavy equipment operator, a profession he took great pride in. Throughout his career, he worked with companies such as Sherwood and Kenny Liebau, where he was recognized for his dedication and skill. Beyond his professional life, Toad had a passion for fishing, hunting, and golfing, activities that brought him joy throughout his life.
Toad’s personal life included two marriages, first to Lois Arlene Agard and later to Bonnie Lou Christenson. Though both marriages ended in divorce, Toad remained a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his children—Floyd Hull, Linda Mattocks Tyler, Alan Hull, Karen Zimmerman, Carol Kill, Joyce Hansen, and Sandy Hull—along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also survived by his sister, Shirley Ferrell, and brother, Bill Hull. Toad was preceded in death by his two wives and sisters, Arleta “Sis” Lundy and Delores “Loy” Hull Alberts.
The community has expressed its sorrow and condolences on social media. Deborah Brunsteter shared, “Keeping the family in our prayers. So sorry for your loss,” while Mary Kegley reminisced, “Sorry to hear about my dear friend since high school. A lot of good memories.” Teresa Williams added, “He was such a good man. Toad and my dad would visit for hours. Sending prayers to the family.”
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to assist with funeral expenses, which can be sent to Dickens Family Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas.
The passing of Floyd Elvin Hull marks the end of an era for Grenola, as the town bids farewell to a man who was not only a skilled worker but also a beloved member of the community. His legacy of hard work, love for his family, and dedication to his passions will be remembered by all who knew him.
